Dec 03, 2024

The traffic police imposed a fine of Rs 1,000 each on more than 1,000 people who came without wearing headgear in Vellore district on Monday.

In Vellore district, it will be compulsory to wear turban from December 1. District Superintendent of Police N. Mathivanan had already issued an order that a fine of Rs.1,000 would be imposed in case of violation.

In this situation, on Sunday (Dec. 1) in Vellore district, a new procedure was brought into force that the two-wheeler drivers must wear helmets.

However, due to heavy rains in Vellore district for the last 2 days due to Fenchal storm, major roads were deserted. Only a few did not follow the new procedure of the police and drove two-wheelers as usual. Since it was the first day that the police were monitoring the traffic rules, they did not show any trouble to the motorists due to the heavy rain.

But on the second day, Monday, the traffic police showed seriousness in imposing fines on those driving two-wheelers without wearing helmets.

In this regard, separate teams were formed in the traffic police department across the district to identify two-wheeler drivers who did not wear helmets and fined them.

Vehicle checks were conducted at important places like Vellore Chelliyamman Temple, New Bus Stand, Gadpadi-Chittoor Bus Stand, Kudiatham Compound, Anna Road.

At that time, motorists who did not wear helmets were fined Rs.1,000 each and given a receipt. It was also informed that motorists should pay the fine directly online.

In that way, the traffic police said that more than 1,000 people were fined across the district on Monday and that fines will be intensified for motorists who continue to come without wearing helmets on two-wheelers.

Meanwhile, two-wheeler riders who came without helmets in the Vellore Chelliyamman temple area came to know that the traffic police were imposing a fine and went back in the opposite direction on the one-way road. Due to this, there was a traffic jam on the Katpadi flyover.

The traffic police gave gifts including key-chains and toys to the motorists who wore helmets.
